SWANTON, Ohio (July 20, 2010) €“ Using the grippy concrete of the Toledo Express Airport as the course surface, 245 Tire Rack® ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû51xxtv ProSolo® National Series competitors entered the Toledo ProSolo, July 17-18. Coming all the way from Austin, Texas, was the correct decision for Andy Hollis, who returned home as the Gumout Super Challenge and Street Touring X champion. Like many of the ProSolo events, this one took place at an airport. Unlike many others, Saturday morning was broken up by an F-16 taking off just a few hundred feet from the course, making a powerful backdrop to a motorsports event. On the course, Hollis used his 1989 Soulspeed/GRM/PowerCurve/FTW Honda Civic Si to sneak through the STX class with his best runs in his final attempts from each side to capture the class win by 0.491-second. Jeremiah McClintock, of Commerce Township, Mich., captured the Formula 125 class at his home ProSolo event by 0.889-second in his 1999 Nut Pack Racing Renspeed Fast machine. Each would advance to the semi-finals of the Gumout Super Challenge on opposite sides of the bracket. F Stock would prove to be the stiffest competition at the top of the class, with Jason Burns, of Red Lion, Penn., using a 2007 Strano Performance Ford Shelby Mustang to top Sam Strano, of Knoxdale, Pa., by 0.175-second in class competition. Strano, coming off of back-to-back Tire Rack® ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû51xxtv Solo National Tour F Stock wins, also advanced to the Super Challenge with his time in the 2011 Strano Performance Parts Ford Mustang. As the Super Challenge played out, Hollis and McClintock would meet the F Stock duo, with Strano facing Hollis and McClintock squaring off with Burns in the final four. Class winners Hollis and Burns both advanced, with Hollis claiming the final run of the day and the Gumout Super Challenge championship. Hollis didn€™t have enough to also capture the Honda Showdown, falling to F Street Prepared winner Jinx Jordan, of Terrell, N.C., in his 1993 Hoosier/SoloProDriving School Honda Civic in that match-up. In the Ladies Challenge, Beth Strelnieks, of Cedar Park, Texas, topped Laura Harbour, of Stamping Ground, Ky., in the finals to claim the title on the Toledo concrete. Strelnieks drove a 1993 Jungle Cat Racing/Hoosier Mazda RX-7, with Harbour behind the wheel of a 1991 Mazda Miata. Other class action leading up to the Super Challenge was close, with four classes besides F Stock separated by less than 0.200-second. Cory Ridgick, the Allentown, Pa. driver who captured the Gumout Super Challenge in Washington, D.C., again placed his 2006 MODERacing Mitsubishi EVO 9 on the top of the B Street Prepared class in the closest finish in the weekend€™s Street Prepared Category. Ridgick topped Michael Fineberg, of Blue Bell, Pa., by 0.154-seconds with Fineberg in a 2005 Office Furniture Solutions Mitsubishi EVO. Two classes in the Street Touring® category were among the closest for the weekend. In Street Touring Sport, Michael Snyder, of Elizabethtown, Pa., piloted his 1990 SSC Tint & Graphics Honda CRX Si to a 0.136-second class win over Herndon, Va.€™s 1988 Toyo/Stranoparts Honda CRX. Street Touring R was even closer, with Chris Harvey, of Osceola, Ind., leading the way by 0.087-second in his 2010 Tire Rack/Grassroots Motorsports Mazda MX-5 over Jason Wong, of Troy, Mich., in a 2005 ModeRacing/Berk Technology Honda S2000. The closest class battle of the weekend came between the 19 cars in the Super Stock class. Patrick Salerno, of New Milford, Conn., led the way to the class win with a 0.062-second margin of victory in a 2005 Evolution Lotus Elise. Following Salerno was Matthew Braun, of Northville, Mich., in a 2007 PowerPlug Lotus Elise, but behind Braun, and just 0.209-second behind Salerno, was Germantown, Wis.€™s Steve Wynveen in the 2004 mercuryracing.com Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The next round of the Tire Rack ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû51xxtv ProSolo Series takes place July 31-August 1 at the Packwood ProSolo in Packwood, Wash.
